Dr. Richard M. Paicius, M.D

Founder and Medical Director

    Dr. Paicius is an internationally recognized pain management specialist and founder of Newport Beach Headache and Pain. He holds dual board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine and has held academic positions in UCLA and UC Irvine in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Over his 30 years of practice Dr. Pacius has been recognized internationally for his work in interventional pain management and has developed innovative pain-relieving techniques that have directly improved the lives of thousands of patients. He has taught hundreds of physicians advanced techniques in interventional pain management, received the Patients Choice award in 2010 and 2011, and in 2005 was listed in the Orange Coast magazine as a ‘Physician of Excellence.

Dr. Larry Lyons

Clinical Psychologist

    Dr. Lawrence Lyons earned his B.A. at St. John’s University in New York. He completed his Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at Alliant University. Following graduation he completed his post-doctoral internship at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland as a MSC Officer.
    When released form active duty he started his private practice providing psychological treatment services to injured workers and chronic pain patients.
    Dr. Lyons specializes in the evaluation and treatment of chronic pain patients. He provides comprehensive neuro-cognitive evaluations on injured workers to determine appropriate disability impairment ratings and utilizes various treatment modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback, bioenergetics, and neuromodulation in assisting patients to achieve improved functionality. He also works with traumatized patients using EMDR, Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and WIM-HOF cold emersion and breathing exercises.
    Dr. Lyons has a strong interest in the practice of Martial Arts where he is a 4th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu.

Dr. Michael Rudolph


    Dr. Michael Rudolph is an emergency and addiction medicine doctor who received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and has been in practice for more than 37 years. He practices internal medicine and treats patients who have issues with the use of narcotic pain medication. He provides safe and effective weaning plans to assure that his patients are reduced to the lowest effective medication dose with the fewest side affects. 

Jeffrey N. Canter, MSHS, MBA, PA-C

Director of Clinical Practice

    Mr. Canter's medical experience began as a Hospital Corpsman with the United States Navy. Upon leaving active duty, he challenged the California nursing board and worked in various healthcare and clinical settings as a nurse. He completed his clinical studies at Riverside County Regional Medical Center and obtained his degree as a Physician Assistant. He then graduated magna cum laude, with dual Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Healthcare Management. Over the years, he has cared for his patients throughout multiple disciplines, including industrial medicine, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pain management. He is highly skilled in the evaluation and treatment of the injured worker and has assisted many injured workers to navigate their successful treatment journey.  
    Mr. Canter enjoys spending time with his family as well as many outdoor activities including scuba diving, camping, boating and fishing. He continues to serve in the United States Navy Reserve as a Command Master Chief. 

Almira Dukovic MS, PA-C.

Clinical Physician Assistant 

    Ms. Dukovic grew up in Orange, California and attended the University of California, Irvine where she earned a degree in Biological Sciences in 2009.
    After graduating from the University of California, Irvine, she attended Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. She went on to graduate with a Master of Science Physician Assistant (MSPA) degree in 2012.
    Since completing her training as a physician assistant, Ms. Dukovic has had extensive experience helping patients with chronic pain issues. She is also very knowledgeable in regard to the California Worker’s Compensation system and has guided many injured workers through the process to aid them in obtaining the treatment they deserve.  

Jane Goldberg, Ph.D., L.M.F.T.

R.E.A.T., C.E.T. Art Therapist

    Dr. Goldberg is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and a Certified Expressive Therapist. Dr. Goldberg has been leading professional training programs and group workshops locally, nationally, and internationally for over 27 years and in 1986 founded the Expressive Arts Training Institute. In 1999 Dr. Goldberg produced the curriculum for the master's and doctorate programs in Expressive Arts Therapy at the San Diego University of Integrative Studies which became State Approved that year. In addition to her guidance as art therapist at the OC Pain and Wellness Dr. Goldberg maintains a private practice in Newport Beach. Dr. Goldberg celebrates the beauty and joy in life, inviting her students, clients and patients to dive deep and discover their highest potentials.

Carmela Borromeo

Licensed Physical Therapist

    Carmela is a licensed Physical Therapist, specializing in the treatment of orthopedic related injuries. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in Manila, Philippines, and has been working as an Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapist for over 13 years. She did her internship and mentoring program at Knight's Physical Therapy, Garden Grove, CA. In addition, Carmela has extensive experience in performing evaluations, providing treatments to patients with various neurological and chronic pain conditions. Her interests includes treatment of a variety of orthopedic and sports related injuries ranging from simple joint sprains and muscle strains, to rehabilitation of pre and post-operative orthopedic patients. She includes education and exercise in her treatment to aid patients return to full function and be able to perform their daily activities. Carmela continues to further her knowledge by completing continuing education classes such as Movement Science courses including Movement impairment Syndromes , Chronic fatigue Syndrome and Mulligan Concept of manual therapy. In her leisure, Carmela enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their 3 children. She is involved in her kids' activities; from field trips, fundraisers, to dance competitions - making her their number one fan.

Jeanne Barnett, RD

Registered Dietitian

    Jeanne Barnett, RD (Registered Dietitian) graduated from the University of Idaho with a BS in Food and Dietetics and a minor in Sports Science in 2000 after completing her internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. Jeanne started her career in Southern California working at Riverside Community Hospital, UCI Medical Center, and currently the Cancer Center at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. Jeanne has a passion for oncology, however has extensive experience in cardiac rehab, liver and kidney transplants, burn unit patients and weight loss counseling.

    Jeanne sincerely enjoys teaching others about the importance of nutrition and how we truly are what we eat. Jeanne looks at the “whole person" and offers encouragement for achieving realistic goals such as losing weight, lowering cholesterol or triglycerides, reducing inflammation through diet or improving quality of life with exercise & proper nutrition. Jeanne enjoys exercising and traveling with her family.

Ashley Mckeachie

Yoga Therapist, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP

Ashley began her yoga journey in January 2010, with a background of over twenty years of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She is a certified yoga therapist and registered yoga teacher who has been committed to teaching the power of yoga since 2011. She received her yoga therapy certification from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in 2014. She obtained her Masters in Yoga Studies from LMU in 2017. Ashley focuses on positivity, visualization, and themes in her yoga classes. She feels that yoga should not be rushed and her classes are focused on slow, elegant movements that compliment rich, deep inhales, and long, smooth exhales. Expect to move safely and with intention, as Ashley inspires you to connect to your true self, the source of all confidence, wisdom, and joy.

 Ross Costa, MPH (Masters in Public Health-Health Education)

 Tai Chi Instructor

    Ross Costa graduated from San Jose State College in 1971 and the University of Hawaii School of Public Health in 1976. Starting off as a director of the senior citizens program at the Waikiki Community Center he practiced Aikido (Japanese Martial Art), Yoga and Tai Chi. In 2001 he began his professional Tai Chi career while studying at Saddleback College under the guidance of Troyce Thome. He quickly became a certified Sun Style Tai Chi instructor. His professional practice is spread amongst Saddleback College, Capistrano Adult Education and various community centers in Southern Orange County. Ross is also a passionate musician, playing and teaching the guitar and ukulele to the Southern California community.  When he isn’t practicing Tai Chi or playing music, Ross enjoys spending time with his wife and children.

Sandra Alvarado

Office Manager, Interpretation & Medical Assistant

    Sandra Alvarado has practiced as a Medical Assistant for over 15 years. She earned her certificate from Career Networks Institute in Orange Ca. Sandra serves as a liaison between our Spanish speaking population and clinicians as she is fluently bilingual. When Sandra has spare time she is helping the local homeless of Orange County by feeding and fundraising for those in need. She also enjoys spending time at the beach with her family.
